The Violet Crown began back in the early '80s in the front room of a small bike shop at Guadalupe and 17th Street. Phil Sladek had the first club jerseys made in Guadalajara where he was living. Things have come a long way in the last 30 years!
So you thought all of the hubbub about last year’s jersey was something new? You are so wrong. Until the “cigar jersey” came along (and stuck for five + years), Violet Crown changed its jersey annually. The jersey meeting was the highlight of the year, leading to endless voting, and great entertainment. This photo ran in the 1998 VC Newsletter immediately following the jersey meeting. For a little history, see the blog and read the original write-up of the 1998 jersey meeting for proof that some things never change.
If you have been reading the Announcements page for the last few months you surely have been following the buildup to the biggest event of the year, the wild and endlessly entertaining jersey selection process. Perhaps you chuckled when you read about our methods of selection. Perhaps you paid no attention to ramblings about shredders and wrestling matches. Perhaps you were wrong. These photos bear witness to the goings-on of the last meeting. After the usual eye-gouging, hair pulling, and wedgies, the tag-team jersey selection began.
When we were done this is the design which won, along with the winning tag team. Don’t miss the next meeting. Same VC time, same VC place.
