In 1981 a group of road cyclists huddled together in a small apartment behind Sandy’s Hamburgers on Barton Springs Rd. For once, they agreed on enough things to formally band together and form the Violet Crown Sports Association, part race team and part cycling promoters. They raced hard, hosted rides, and promoted local races through thick and thin. More than 40 years later, the club is still riding together and promoting the cycling as the longest-running cycling club in Texas.
Today the Violet Crown Sports Association operates as a 501(c)4 nonprofit governed by a set of bylaws and a mission to bring together cyclists of all ages, types and abilities to promote the sport of cycling.
Our club is home to more than 300 recreational cyclists. Members range in age from 5 to 85. We ride road, gravel, mountain bikes and more and about half of us still race our bikes in events across the US.
Our members are active participants in the cycling community. You’ll see our jerseys represented by smiling faces almost everywhere you go, including behind the scenes with more than 1,000 hours of volunteering at local events every year.
